Completes Unique Museum Audio Installation

i.d.e.a.s. produced and delivered ten unique audio environments for the Pirate Soul Museum. The team recently wrapped up the custom design guest immersion audio installation for Pat Croce’s state-of-the art museum in Key West, FL.

“We created ten environments, the highlight of which is a binaural experience in Blackbeard’s holding cell,” says John Lux, vice president and general manager of i.d.e.a.s. “The three-dimensionality of binaural recording and playback offers a remarkable experience to the Pirate Soul Museum visitor that most museums have yet to offer their guests.”

The eight-member team at i.d.e.a.s. spent three months in production, capturing original recordings in multiple locations throughout North America. “Designing this kind of attraction experience gives us the opportunity to do some different things with our audio rooms,” comments Rob Reinbolt, sr. audio mixer at i.d.e.a.s. “We are always psyched to sink our teeth into this type of creative sound design and audio mastering.”

During production the i.d.e.a.s. team also constructed a two level, 20 x 20 mock pirate ship on the company’s recording stage. The recording was accomplished using both a binaural recording head and standard audio recording equipment. To create the distinct environments, sound design, Foley, voice over, and loop group recording were all employed in the postproduction process. Included in the different environments is the deck of Blackbeard’s ship, a Blackbeard audio animatronic, the museum’s exterior courtyard, as well as the binaural experience in Blackbeard’s holding cell.
