SSL C200 Digital Console
SSL launched two desks on a new-generation platform at NAB. Their new Centauri platform was announced in early March, with the compact, assignable function C100 console, sporting a gorgeous and intuitive touch screen interface, the first offering in the new line.

While the C100 was announced prior to the convention, SSL surprised attendees with yet a second console built on the Centauri core. The new C200 digital production console is of a more conventional, in-line, knob-per-function design, though the layout and operation incorporate lessons learned on the various SSL digital “A” series consoles. The C200 is a multibus console, designed with surround television and 5.1 music applications such as DVD-Audio in mind, with a special configuration for mobile use. The C200 will succeed the Axiom MT and MT Plus in SSL’s digital line.

Videotek ASM-100 Audio Monitor
Videotek has introduced the ASM-100 multi-format audio signal monitor. The ASM-100 is the only audio instrument designed to monitor many audio formats in one unit. Providing a high resolution XGA output for use with a standard PC monitor, the ASM-100 will display up to eight channels of analog or AES/EBU audio (base unit). For video applications, options enable de-embedding the SD and HD-SDI inputs, as well as full Dolby Digital and Dolby E decoding. Videotek’s Cinetone option provides a means for verifying surround sound channel placement and inter-channel phase relationships.

Killer Tracks Ultimate FX Library
Ultimate FX (UFX) DVD video and DVD-ROM have been designed for effortless operation with surround sound previewing and easy one step downloading.

Unique to UFX, each individual sound effect is digitally mastered and manually mapped in Dolby 5.1. It is totally original work, recorded in the field using six microphones for true 5.1 surround sound. Ultimate Effects 5.1 is a multi-layered tool for sound designers that give them the freedom to use the full effect, or manipulate the sub effects that comprise it. The 5.1 surround sound library features six discrete channels in AC3 and AIFF files, 16-bit 48 kHz.

Steinberg Ships nuendo 2.0 Media production system
Steinberg has announced the shipping of the Nuendo 2.0 media production system in the U.S. From input to final mix, Nuendo 2.0 is all about surround, with multichannel architecture through the entire signal path. Every input, audio track, effect, group and output now offers up to 12 discrete channels, ready for full-scale 5.1, 7.1, or even 10.2 productions. To make routing in the project even more transparent, Steinberg has developed a new way of organizing inputs and outputs, allowing the user to customize multichannel input/output configurations and switch between them with a single keystroke. Several input and output busses can be utilized at the same time, with any type of configuration possible — mono, stereo, or any of a wide range of surround formats — and any track can be routed to and from any of these busses. Nuendo 2.0 even allows switching between multiple monitoring configurations (speaker arrangements) and can simulate a wide variety of end user monitoring environments.

Nuendo 2.0’s 32-bit floating point mixer has been completely re-engineered and now features multiple multichannel input and output busses. This new architecture allows for recording in either split or interleaved surround audio file formats and makes managing a surround project easier than ever before — Nuendo 2.0 always keeps track of which part of the signal chain is multichannel and which is simply stereo or mono.

Nuendo 2.0 is available at select Steinberg dealers for $1499.99 U.S. MSRP. An update from previous Nuendo versions is available for registered users for $299.99 U.S. MSRP. Upgrades can be ordered at
