Sydney’s Historic Capitol Theatre Installs Australia’s First Klipsch Cinema System
More than 70 years after opening its doors as Sydney’s Premiere atmospheric movie palace, the Capitol Theatre has finally come full circle to is film house beginnings with a month-long showing of the digitally-remastered Gone With The Wind. In order to bring state-of-the-art sound to an historic venue and film, Greater Union Entertainment Technology (GUET) chose to install a full Klipsch cinema loudspeaker system. Although used extensively in U.S. chains like MALCO Cinemas and Regal Cinemas, this is the first Klipsch cinema system to be used in an Australian theatre.
According to GUET cinema product manager Bob Lucas, “With Klipsch speakers, the sound on dialog is very natural without the typical horn ‘croak’ that a lot of cinema speakers have, The bass is strong, the high frequencies are not harsh and metallic, and, at high levels, Klipsch has great impact without sounding loud or hurting your ears.”
