Boston’s Renowned Soundtrack Opens its First 5.1 Studio
Soundtrack, the multi-room facility which has been one of the brightest lights on Boston’s audio horizon for 20 years, opened its first multichannel surround audio studio earlier this year. The heart of this new studio is its Genelec monitoring system comprised of five 1032A speakers and the Genelec 1094 subwoofer.
“Our primary business is commercial audio for radio and television,” explains Allen Smith, Soundtrack’s chief engineer. “However, we also do sound design, ADR work for film, and even some long-form film mixing — it’s a very versatile facility. So while the main intent for this new room is radio and television commercial work, it needs the same flexibility, with the added dimension of multichannel monitoring. We were very careful about which monitors we chose for the room.”
The installation of the Genelec monitors is interesting, actually. The rear speakers are fully freestanding, allowing considerable flexibility to meet the needs of various engineers and applications. “Genelecs were the best choice for a surround audio room,” says Smith. “We’re glad we got them.”
