STMicroelectronics Licenses SRS Labs’ Virtual Audio Technology, TruSurround
SRS Labs, Inc. has announced their licensing partnership to bring SRS Labs’ virtual audio technology, TruSurround to manufacturers of DVD products around the world.
STMicroelectronics will offer TruSurround in the STi5505 0MEGA-DVD device, the world’s first device to integrate within a single chip all DVD back-end decoding and host processing functions. These functions previously required four chips. The superior sound performance achieved through TruSurround will play a major role in enabling manufacturers to deliver high performance DVD players at true consumer prices.
“One of the most exciting application areas for dedicated ICs is the rapidly expanding market for digital consumer products,” stated Philippe Lambinet, General Manager of Digital Division of STMicroelectronics. “The high quality digital video image compression of MPEG coupled with the audio excellence of TruSurround will make the STi5505 very popular in the marketplace. We are pleased to be associated with this impressive surround sound enhancement and we look forward to the benefits it will bring to OEMs and our customers around the world.”
