Marcus Theatres Sets Goal of 90% Stadium Seating/Digital Sound by End of 2000
Marcus Theatres Corporation, a division of The Marcus Corporation, has announced that over 90% of its first run movie screens will feature UltraView(tm) stadium seating and digital sound by the end of the year 2000.
“We’re investing millions of dollars in our theatres to retrofit virtually all of our traditional style auditoriums to stadium seating and digital sound. And because some moviegoers prefer traditional seating, guests at Marcus Theatres may choose from both stadium and traditional seating in our auditoriums. And as we retrofit, we’re being very careful to retain ideal viewing angles. We’ve moved our first rows further away from the screen to make the viewing angle less severe. We know of no other theatre circuit in the country that is making such a huge investment and commitment to provide moviegoers with this level of quality,” said Bruce J. Olson, president of Marcus Theatres Corporation.
“All of our new theatres feature Dolby Digital, DTS and SDDS digital formats, as well as THX-certified auditoriums, but our goal is to offer the best sound possible for all moviegoers — so we’re upgrading virtually all of our existing sound systems to crystal clear digital sound. Not only that, Marcus Theatres are also inspected by George Lucas’ Lucasfilm Theatre Alignment Program (TAP) to assure that our presentations, both picture and sound, are the best in the industry.”
