E&E Completes Asia’s Largest Multiplex
Electronics and Engineering Pte Ltd. has recently completed the projection and sound system installation for Asia’s largest multiplex, the Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) in Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur. Situated in Mid Valley Megamall Kuala Lumpur, the 18-screen multiplex has a built-up area of more than 9,000 square meters, and houses surround sound auditoriums equipped with state-of-the-art systems from JBL, Strong, Dolby Digital, DTS, and SDDS. The multiplex aims to heighten the movie sensation and escalate the movie-watching experience to a new level in the country.
Boasting a seating capacity of 2,909 seats, the GSC Mid Valley multiplex contains the latest halls, international screens, an A/V convention auditorium, and a luxurious 32-seater private screen, Gold Class. Featuring THX-approved halls, the multiplex’s sound system backbone comprises the latest JBL 5672 three-way screen channel systems, the ultimate cinema speaker solution for outstanding tri-amplification performance. In addition to this, the Mid Valley multiplex has also installed the JBL two-way full range 4675C-8LF cinema speaker systems that are linked with the IM12 crossover modules to provide necessary bi-amplified sound reinforcement. To complete the sound system design, the JBL 8330 three-way surround loudspeakers-the 8340 two-way cinema surround speakers and supporting 4645C 18-inch sub-bass systems-are used to maximize the sonic impact and clarity.
Using the JBL MPA600, MPX600 and MPA1200 amplifiers, the GSC Mid Valley multiplex is able to achieve an amplification output of more than 220,000 watts. Apart from an elaborated sound system design, the multiplex also features the latest, most sophisticated Strong CAN 200 computerized controls for the projection systems in all of its theatres. An array of encoders and decoders which include Dolby Digital CP5000, CAT701, SA-10, SDDS CM-80, as well as DTS-6D, are also employed for sound processing. For extreme clarity and resolution, all movies are screened on Harkness Matt White Screens with black masking curtains in the multiplex.
“Equipped with state-of-the-art sound system and projection systems, the GSC Mid Valley will bring the movie-watching experience to a new level of excitement, and we are extremely proud to be part of this project. We hope that we will continue to work closely with GSC to further improve ways to bring sonic audio and realistic visuals to all movie-goers in Malaysia,” comments Koh Yock Kee, operations manager of Electronics and Engineering Pte Ltd., who is responsible for this massive project.
The GSC Mid Valley multiplex is now managed by the largest cinema chain in the country, Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd.
