Spruce Joins DTS to Provide Fully DTS-Enabled DVD Authoring and Encoding Solution
Spruce Technologies and DTS have partnered to provide customers with a fully-enabled solution for encoding and authoring DVD titles using the DTS digital surround audio standard. DVD producers can now, for the first time, encode DTS multichannel audio directly into their authoring system rather than sending material to DTS for encoding.

The solution pairs Spruce�s flagship DVDMaestro authoring system with the new DTS CAE-4 Professional Encoder. Early testers of the solution have been pleased with the results.

Wolfgang Martens, head of Technique Premastering at Sonopress in Germany, says, “DTS 5.1 audio is an important technology for advanced DVD production. The reliance on other facilities interrupts our production processes and adds expense to a project. We have been looking forward to the ability to handle DTS encoding since this is a standard within the DVD specifications. In conjunction with our Spruce DVDMaestro systems, the new DTS encoder makes this high-quality audio technology much more feasible for Sonopress and our customers.”

The DTS CAE-4 Professional Encoder is simple and user-friendly. It accepts six audio channels (3 AES/EBU pairs) and outputs a DTS bitstream on a single EBU pair. It is used in conjunction with the DTS CAD-4 decoder and the E-175-01 Timecode Controller.
