Boston Gains its First TX Certified Theatre; New General Cinema Fenway Theatre Complex Includes Two THX Certified Auditoriums, Offering the Ultimate Moviegoing Experience
Boston is treated this month to its first THX certified movie theatre with the opening of the General Cinema Fenway Theatre complex. The new 13-screen megaplex includes two THX certified auditoriums, offering the city’s moviegoers the best film presentation in picture and sound.

The THX auditoriums, featuring two of the largest full-time movie screens in New England, adhere to strict THX specifications. The THX Certification Program is the only one of its kind, encompassing all aspects of a theatre’s audio and visual performance.

With this new complex, General Cinema introduces Boston to a premiere moviegoing experience, and we’re thrilled to be such an integral part of that effort,” says Monica L. Dashwood, general manager, Lucasfilm THX. “General Cinema has a long standing commitment to quality going back to its debut of the worlds first THX certified theatre in 1982. Our partnership in Boston reinforces that commitment and guarantees that the citys moviegoers will see and hear a film exactly the way the director intended.”

To achieve THX certification, the two Fenway Theatre auditoriums were built to meet a set of technical standards developed by Lucasfilm Ltd. To ensure that optimum performance levels are achieved. This comprehensive set of standards includes rigorous specifications designed to optimize equipment, room acoustics, background noise levels, and projection and viewing angles.

“Our Fenway Theatre complex finally offers Boston a modern movie megaplex, highlighted by our two THX certified auditoriums,” says Frank Stryjewski, general cinema president. “We wanted to offer an incomparable movie experience and we believe that weve accomplished that by combining the impact of our huge Screen Monsters with performance levels that THX certification delivers.”

The 3,100-seat General Cinema Fenway megaplex is the largest movie theatre complex in Boston. In addition to the two THX certified screens, it offers large screens, digital surround sound, stadium seating, and high-backed seats in every auditorium, as well as state-of-the-art concession and box office areas.
